About

Children’s Outreach Program for Education Jamaica was founded by Layon Brown, a passionate educator and entrepreneur. Layon’s journey to creating this foundation began years ago as a high school teacher at York Castle High School in St Ann. Inspired by a colleague’s initiative to raise funds for struggling students through cake and ice cream sales, Layon saw firsthand how critical education support is in Jamaica.

However, it was a heartfelt conversation with a friend about a mother in Trelawny, Jamaica, who was desperate to send her child to a prominent high school but lacked the necessary resources, that reignited Layon’s desire to help. This conversation sparked the idea of a foundation that would provide crucial assistance—transportation, lunch, and supplies—to children so they could attend school without worry.

Through COPE, Layon hopes to provide the same kind of support to children across Jamaica, ensuring that they have access to consistent education and all the resources they need to thrive.

"Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today".
